Poem in Your Pocket Day

April 30, 2015

Celebrate your favorite poem by carrying it around in you pocket and sharing it with others.

Originally started in 2002, in New York City as part of the city's National Poetry Month celebration, Poem in Your Pocket (PIYP) day is a day to celebrate your favorite poem by carrying it around in you pocket and sharing it with someone else at least once.  The Academy of American Poets made PIYP Day a national event in 2009, and encourages people to "join in and channel their inner bard."

PIYP Day activities are being planned in schools, bookstores, libraries, parks, workplaces, and other venues around the country.  Find out more at Poets.org, including downloadable files with different poems to share.
