A collection of poems accompanied by splendid watercolor paintings offers gentle instruction on how to live in harmony with nature.
Watercolor paintings, which show a variety of different kinds of greenery, are each accompanied by a brief poem and a comment about the pictured plant. The paintings are the most memorable part of the book, beautifully conveying a sense of affection for growing things, both backyard and exotic. The jacket illustration shows an Australian rain forest, but the book itself is global in scope.
My favorite is "Bird-of-Paradise": The bird-of-paradise was not in bloom. There was an embarrassed silence about it, like someone searching for the right word. I waited. Finally it spoke to me in another voice--its green voice.
