The Storm Book

written by Charlotte Zolotow, illustrated by Margaret Bloy Graham

Depicts a summer storm from the first clap of thunder to the final rainbow.

From the last moments of an oppressively hot day to the rainbow breaking out over the countryside, everything about the storm is new, exciting, and thrilling for a young boy. The Caldecott Honor illustrations support the text without being too scary or overwhelming. Written and illustrated in 1952 it has weathered the years well.

The Storm Book has a unique layout: a double page of black text on a white page is followed by a double-page spread of illustration. The reader will want to spend extra time looking at these pictures, finding items mentioned on the pages before.
