The Magic Hat

by Mem Fox, illustrated by Tricia Tusa

A wizard's hat blows into town, changing people into different animals when it lands on their heads.

“Oh, the magic hat, the magic hat! It moved like this, it moved like that!” The rhythmic  text tells how a funny little hat lands on a person’s head and turns them into an animal.

Listeners quickly pick up the rhyming and context clues to the next animal to be expected. “over the road . . . a warty old . . toad” or “It’s true! . . . hopped on the head of a . . kangaroo”. The cheerful illustrations show everyone having a good time and the dilemma is satisfactorily remedied.
