The Knight and the Dragon

written and illustrated by Tomie dePaola

An inexperienced knight and a bumbling dragon decide they must live up to social expectations and meet on the battle field. But neither knows anything about fighting the other. . .

An inexperienced young knight and a not-so-fierce dragon conclude that they must meet on the field of combat in order to live up to social expectations. It won't be an ordinary battle since neither knows anything about fighting the other. The knight goes to the castle library to learn about dragon-fighting and the dragon digs through his ancestor s things to find out how to fight a knight! That doesn't work out well at all. It is up to a medieval bookmobile lady (who is not mentioned in the text) to come to their rescue and show them the way to develop their special talents.

The comic book style layout is perfect for this almost wordless picture book. The illustrations are full of action and slapstick humor to match the story. This is a great title to help sell the value of books to reluctant readers.
