Save the Rainforests!

An article about the author in one of our classroom newspapers introduced me to this book and concern for the survival of the rainforests of the world. It became a foundation book for an entire theme unit because it has so much to offer. The paintings are detailed and realistic and show many different insects, butterflies, birds, frogs, snakes, and mammals that make the rainforest their home. The two page spread of the rainforest when the woodsman has just begun to chop the tree and the one at the end with the boy and all the creatures of the forest pleading with the woodcutter provide outstanding prompts for discussion and creative writing.
