Tacky the Penguin

by Helen Lester, illustrated by Lynn Munsinger

Tacky saves his proper penguin companions from "rough and tough" hunters with his totally nonconformist ways.

From the first glimpse of Tacky in his yellow-flowered Hawaiian shirt you know that he is definitely a unique character. The other penguins in the nice, icy land do not appreciate his exuberant and unusual approach to their daily activities. But then he saves them from the bumbling hunters who arrive to "catch some pretty penguins" and "get rich, rich, rich!"

Tacky was an odd bird but a very nice bird to have around.

Whimsical, full-color illustrations strengthen the tale and are particularly engaging as they depict Tacky's madcap antics and the changing expressions of the proper penguins and the hunters.
