Room On the Broom

written by Julia Donaldson, illustrated by Axel Scheffler

A witch finds room on her broom for all the animlas that ask for a ride and they repay her kindness by rescuing her from a dragon.

Rhyming verses that tell about one night's adventurous ride on a broom with a witch who picks up a cat, a dog, a bird, and a frog. When the broom breaks down it is up to the animals to save the witch from a dragon who wants to eat her with his French fries. The cartoon-like characters in bright colors against the dark background of night add enjoyment to this flight of fancy.

Storytime Tip

To get them all home the witch conjures up "a truly magnificant broom". Before we take a look at that broom I like to have listeners and readers draw a broom or other cleaning tool conveyance of their own.
