On My Beach There are Many Pebbles

written and illustrated by Leo Lionni

Pictures and simple text describe the many different shapes and markings of pebbles found on the beach.

A few words on the page caption black and white drawings of small stones found on a beach. Some of the stones have been arranged or adapted to represent fish, geese, people, or letters. There are five double page spreads with no captions--just a multitude of pebbles lying on the shore. The horizontal format is quite effective in encouraging "beachcombing". Some of the pebbles are blatant in their representation (obviously a cat, chicken, lizard or the like) while others are open to discussion.
