The Mystery of the Flying Orange Pumpkin

written and illustrated by Steven Kellogg

Members of the Patterson Pumpkin Club worked together to grow a big pumpkin for a special Jack-o-lantern. Now a selfish new neighbor may keep it for his own pumpkin pie.

Members of the Patterson Pumpkin Club have spent all summer growing and caring for their big pumpkin in anticipation of a special Jack-o-lantern. Now a selfish new neighbor may keep it for his own pumpkin pie. The children and adult friend work together to bring about a satisfying Halloween for all.

Steven Kellogg is one of my favorite illustrators and these illustrations - using color only for the pumpkins - really help focus attention on the key elements of the story.

A satisfactory resolution of the problem in the story is achieved in part by baking a pumpkin pie. Pie, cookies, bread, and other food products will be discussed throughout the pumpkin theme as alternatives for use.
