In this wordless adaptation of one of Aesop's most beloved fables, a ferocious lion and a cowering mouse learn that no act of kindness is ever wasted.
This familiar fable from Aesop is presented in nearly wordless format and set on the African Serengeti. After a ferocious lion spares a cowering mouse that he'd planned to eat, the mouse later comes to his rescue, freeing him from a poacher's trap. The pencil-and-watercolor drawings are exquisitely detailed and present vivid depictions of the African landscape and expressively-drawn characters.
Well deserved Caldecott Medal
When I first saw this book I said it would be positively criminal if it did not win the Caldecott. I have long been a fan of Jerry Pinkney's work and think this is one of his very best efforts to date.
