Koala Lou

written by Mem Fox, illustrated by Pamela Lofts

When her mother becomes so busy she forgets to tell her firstborn how much she loves her, Koala Lou enters the Bush Olympics, intending to win an event and her mother’s love all at one time.

The heroine enters the Bush Olympics and hopes to win an event so that her mother-overwhelmed by the birth of many, many koala babes-will, once again, say to her eldest, "Koala Lou, I DO love you." Even though she loses the event, she gains what she most wants. The engaging colored-pencil drawings portray the Australian flora and fauna beautifully. The expressive faces and simple details (like Koala Lou's red sneakers) enrich the delightful story.
