written and illustrated by David Wiesner

Flotsam: something that floats. Caldecott Medal-winning illustrations tell a fascinating adventure story generated by finding a unique piece of flotsam.

Appropriate for older readers

Moving from pages formatted like the Sunday comics to dynamic full page and stunning double-page spreads a fascinating story unfolds without words. A curious young boy discovers a special camera washed up on the beach. As he looks at the pictures developed from the roll of film it contained he explores incredible places under the sea and travels back through time with those who have found the camera before.

David Wiesner has received other Caldecott Medals and Caldecott Honor awards but I believe this book, Caldecott Medal winner in 2007, to be his best work and the perfect representative for what this award is all about.
