Be a Friend to Trees

by Patricia Lauber, illustrated by Holly Keller

Trees are a valuable natural resource, providing food, oxygen, and many other essential things.

Trees are nice.
They're nice to look at, nice to have around.
Trees are also useful.

This Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science title (Stage 2 for ages 5-9) points out the many ordinary objects made from wood or, less obviously, tree products (rubber, turpentine, fruit, paper), shares trees' role in animal habitats and the larger environment, and explains photosynthesis as an important part of a cycle on which we all depend. The simple text ends with suggestions for ways to befriend trees.

The brightly colored illustrations and diagrams are clearly labeled and complement the text.
