Unable to sleep on the night of a full moon a young boy follows the sound of music to find an unusual barn dance in progress.
Rhyming verses tell about a "skinny kid with questions in his head" who follows the sound of music to discover the farm animals involved in a toe-tapping hoedown in the barn. The scarecrow plays the fiddle and the crow calls the dances; the words of the call are printed in italics. The cheerful enthusiasm of the festivities is reinforced by the bright colors of the illustrations against the dark-of-night backgrounds.
I Like This Book Because...
The rhythm and rhyme of the text make it a fantastic read-aloud.
